The List of 7 Best Gimbals For Nikon Z7

Here is the list of experts after using and experiencing all cameras.

1. DJI RS 3 Pro

If you don’t mind the price tag, the DJI RS 3 Pro is an amazing stabilization with tons of unique features which you won’t find elsewhere.

Superior Focusing System

Armed with laser-guided imaging and surface detection module, the RS 3 Pro excels greatly in the focusing department where brands fail to do so.

The focus assisting LiDar mechanism is one of the most cutting-edge technologies I have ever seen on a camera accessory as you no longer have to rely on light hitting the sensors of your camera in order to determine the distance and focus accurately onto the subject.

With up to 14 meters of range, the 43200 points ranging points precisely detect the surface of your subject, resulting in super sharp and blurred images.

Automatic Axis Locking

With just the push of a button, the three tilt, pan, and roll axes automatically lock themselves when you are no longer using them. This means you no longer have to independently tweak each axis when awakening back from its slumber while in use.

This is quite efficient for anyone that often travels a lot as this feature saves quite a lot of time as you always have a well-calibrated axis right off the bat.

Payload Capacity

Furthermore, I would also like to shed some light on the weight of this gimbal as it barely weighs 1.5kg. This means you would barely feel anything while carrying it even if you have your camera attached to it.

However, don’t let the lightweight design fool you as the whole infrastructure is quite strong enough to carry weight up to 10lbs.

All thanks to the carbon fiber arms which boost the integrity of the whole setup and make it durable enough to be used easily with firm stability in your everyday routine.

To sum it up, there is no doubt that this stabilization assisting device comes at a hefty cost, however, it also offers flagship features that you would barely see elsewhere making it quite suitable for serious filmmakers and other cinematographers that often embark on professional grade studio shoots.

Strength
  • Additional Extensive ports
  • Has Lidar for focusing
  • Automatic Motor Locking
  • Superior Stabilization Mechanism
  • Troubleless controls
  • Rarest Teflon-coated component
Weakness
  • Bulkier than alternatives
  • Not Suitable For Telephoto Lenses

2. DJI RSC 2 Combo

2. DJI RSC 2 Combo

  • Max. Payload: 6.6 pounds
  • Battery Life: 14hr Fast-Charge Batteries
  • Charging Time: 2 Hours (15-min charge will last 2 hours)
  • Connections: Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C
  • Display: 1-inch built-in OLED screen
  • Smartphone App: Available
  • Warranty: 1 year
  • Weight: 2.3 Pounds

The DJI RSC 2 boasts a compact build that can be folded for easy storage, making it smaller than a sheet of A5 paper.

Payload Capacity

The whole infrastructure is pretty sturdy and gives off premium vibes and it’s safe to assume that in terms of quality, this gimbal met my expectations very well.

As for the payload capacity, loading it up with light to moderate cameras like the Nikon Z7 is a piece of cake as the motors can balance themselves out fairly well even if you are using a lightweight prime lens.

Keep in mind the maximum payload limit on this device is 6.6 lbs(2.9 kg) so if you want to pair your camera with bulkier telephoto lenses, you may find yourself in a pickle.

Titan Stabilization Algorithm

On the flip side, the overall balancing is pretty simple and straightforward and could be achieved in less than a minute.

The Titan stabilization algorithm counteracts sudden or swift movement by enforcing high response stabilization and eliminates jitters to give tremendous stability to your camera setup.

It is extremely smooth to record videos while running or traveling on a bike when the SuperSmooth feature is enabled, as it eliminates even the slightest micromovement.

As for me, using this gimbal for my vlogs has changed the way I record them as I no longer have to spend time in post-editing to remove blurred or jittery frames which may ruin my whole video since most of the time it feels like my videos are shot on a tripod since they have superb stabilization.

Battery Life

I believe for photographers who travel a lot, there is no better alternative than this gimbal as it has superb battery runtime and provides power for up to 14 hours, ensuring all three of its axes remain balanced all day long.

All in all, you could literally record or perform a couple of sessions before the batteries on this thing give up on you, so as for its battery life I consider them very reliable and perfect for everyday use.

Test Results

While the RSC 2 is certainly a gimbal that you want in your arsenal especially if you are a professional photographer, aside from being simply amazing with top-tier quality, I even noticed that you can connect it with its own RONIN application.

Furthermore, the application also offers cool features like panorama, virtual joystick movement, time-lapse, and tracking.

But keep in mind, in order to track your subject through your smartphone, you need to buy the Raven Eye module.

Aside from all these phenomenal features, you can even calibrate your Nikon Z7 with the auto-tune capabilities, once I was done, my Nikon Z7 was automatically calibrated in a matter of seconds.

Right beside the power button, there is a smartphone attachment point which basically turns your smartphone into a large monitor so you don’t have to carry it in your hand while you are connected to the gimbal.

It’s convenient and easy to hook up and barely obstructs my palms, which is why I feel like this is the most commendable aspect of the gimbal.

Reason For Recommendation

Easy to set up and has an innovative Ronin app that provides bigger and wider insight into the gimbal.

Strength
  • Very Compact Design
  • Titan Stabilization Algorithm
  • Outstanding battery life
  • Quick Switch to Vertical Shooting
  • Comes with SuperSmooth mode
Weakness
  • Slippery mounting plates
  • A bit expensive but worth it

I was very excited to try out something new for my camera, so I ordered the Zhiyun Weebill 3 Combo edition, although the delivery took quite a while it did reach me safely and soundly and in nice packaging.

Payload Specification

One odd thing I noticed is that Zhiyun never mentioned any official rating regarding its payload capacity, which is why I decided to measure the strength of its motors by carefully loading up my Nikon Z7 and adding extra accessories.

After some experimenting, I can confidently say the gimbal can hold up to 7 lbs of weight just fine, however, the payload specification can be regarded as irrelevant here as the gimbal itself is loaded with plenty of features and add-ons which I am going to explain below.

Built-in Noise Cancellation Microphone

Unlike other gimbals, this one comes with a variety of goodies such as a Microphone with active noise cancellation that keeps unnecessary noise and other background sounds at bay.

This means all your videos will have an extremely perfect sound quality and you don’t really have to rely on your camera’s microphone.

This is quite helpful for vloggers that often record videos outside where background noise is tenfold as compared to indoors.

Built-in FlashLight

Working in a poorly lit situation but forgot to bring your flash with you? Well, worry no more as this gimbal has solved that issue by eliminating the need for carrying an aftermarket flash with you at all times.

Now you can perform indoor or outdoor photography without relying on ambient lighting.

In order to enable the flashlight, long press the wheel button on the side of the gimbal and rotate the wheel to adjust the brightness to get perfect lighting of up to 1000 lumens.

That’s not it yet, you can also tweak the color of flash lightning to warmer 2600k shades up to 5400k colder colors in order to get the perfect gradient for your snapshots.

Ergonomic Sling Grip

Lastly, the combo version also rocks a unique sling grip which gives comfort and support to the wrist and allows it to be positioned stress-free so that your hands won’t feel sore even after hours of use.

The grip is designed in such a way that it clamps around your hand while you hold it so that it redirects the whole weight equally, making it quite easy to carry it even with one hand.

Strength
  • Has Built In Microphone With Noise Cancellation Feature
  • Comfortable Grip
  • Ergonomic design
  • Even has Its Own Flashlight
  • Decent Payload Strength
  • Re-tuned running curves
Weakness
  • Lacks touchscreen

4. FeiyuTech SCORP-C [Official]

  • Max. Payload: 6.6 pounds
  • Display: 1.8-inch OLED Touchscreen
  • Connections: Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C
  • Battery Life: 12 Hours (3000 mAh, Removable)
  • Charging Time: 2.5 Hours (Supports 18W PD Fast-charging)
  • Smartphone App: Yes
  • Weight: 2.8 Pounds (Including all accessories)
  • Warranty: 1 year

The successor of Ak2000C, the FeiyuTech is Scorp C is a refined version of its predecessor in all the right ways possible, giving it an edge over the other rival brands.

Ease Of Use

The gimbal highly caters to novice users who are quite new to the whole “stabilization” feature this 3-axis device offers.

Although at first, it may seem a little bit challenging to fine-tune each and every axis individually for vertical, horizontal, and tilt movement, after, a couple of tries you will be easily able to get the perfect calibration without breaking a sweat.

Moreover, even if you don’t have an aftermarket tripod, the Scorp-C takes care of this issue as it also comes with its own foldable aileron tripod which substitutes an external tripod quite perfectly.

So if you are on the move to take some dynamic portraits or want to record some stills, this gimbal has you covered.

Knob Of Configuration

There are plenty of customization and configuration options available in your arsenal here, such as the magic control gear which takes care of the triple axis as well as the focusing of your camera.

Moreover, you can even control the movement of the camera as well as the zoom on the subject but keep in mind you need to use the control cable in order to utilize this functionality.

Phenomenal Payload Capacity

It’s quite amazing how well this gimbal can hold up weight up to 5.5 pounds, allowing you to take some of the most mind-boggling creative shots possible while hooking all sorts of aftermarket lenses and other accessories while keeping the payload as steady as possible.

Furthermore, it even comes with dual grips which let you switch between vertical and horizontal angles at a moment’s notice through its Underslung grip as well as the pistol grip.

This is quite an improvement over the AK2000C gimbal since it only had one pistol grip just like every other standard gimbal and you have to incorporate the optional underslung grip in order to benefit from its seamless angle switching feature.

Testing & Evaluation

The unique structural framework ensured my fingers easily reached every bit of configurable so I won’t be wasting my time looking for it.

The main control panel also has an LED battery indicator to provide a quick insight into how much juice I have left before I recharge it again.

Aside from physical buttons, these bad-boy capabilities can be further enhanced and evolved through tons of customization by downloading the proprietary app onto your Smartphone.

It barely took me a minute to connect it to my phone through Bluetooth and unlike previous iterations, this version had a very neat user interface which is no doubt easier to navigate with less cluttered menus.

Right beneath the gimbal handle, there is a trajectory button that conveniently lets me pinpoint two different points so I can quickly switch between those two points without manually moving my camera or using the joystick through a uniform motion.

This makes professional videography extremely easy especially for me when I am recording vlogs or simply reviewing products in my lab for my audience.

If you cannot find the button, resort to the picture below,

On the other hand of the gimbal, right beside the AB trajector button, there is a magic wheel that lets me orient my camera and while touching the knob the camera movement felt very responsive and had no lags at all.

Reason For Recommendation

Personally, I feel like the magic knob is a game changer and more gimbal manufacturers should integrate this feature as it is so convenient and reliable while orienting your camera with uniform motion, especially during videography.

Strength
  • Have Dual Grips and better handling
  • Outstanding Payload Capacity
  • Magic Knob enhances ease of use
  • Easy to balance
  • Very affordable
  • Compatible with mirrorless, DSLR, and lens combos
Weakness
  • Little bit bulky
  • No touchscreen. All physical buttons

The next best gimbal for Nikon z7 on my list is FeiyuTech Scorp Pro. A Heavy-duty Gimbal especially designed for professionals to suit their high industry standard demands, the FeiyuTech Scorp Pro is a formidable player in this electronic jungle.

Somatic Mode

This feature is unlike anything I have ever seen on a gimbal. After pressing the “M” button, the detachable grip acts as a remote control which lets you control the direction of your camera.

This feature is quite optimal in places where you are shooting solo and want to control the camera wirelessly from a distance.

Furthermore, you can even fine-tune and calibrate all three axes and zoom onto your subject. What’s more surprising is the fact that it has a massive range of 20 meters. I have to admit this is a truly mind-boggling and innovative feature.

Center of Gravity Adjustment

When it comes to manually adjusting each axis, things can get a little tricky especially if you are new or don’t have much experience.

Improper balancing can dramatically impact how stabilization in the gimbal works and you may notice some camera jitter or micro shakes appear in a sudden movement.

Keeping that in mind, the Scorp Pro comes with a 5-point center of gravity adjustment mechanism which lets you precisely adjust the camera as well as balance it, enhancing the ease of use.

In other words, this drastically cuts down on setup and installation time, allowing you to save your precious time and work efficiently.

Payload Specifications

As for its strength, the Scorp Pro is an absolute beast and can hold up to 4.8 Kg of payload weight with buttery smooth stability.

If you are a professional studio photographer or a filmmaker that wants to record cinematic action videos or documentaries, I believe this gimbal is the one fit for your needs.

Long Lasting Battery

Furthermore, battery life is also an important aspect as it powers the motors of the whole gimbal and ensures it stays alive and functional. In terms of runtime, on a single charge, you can get up to 12 hours of mileage.

What’s more astounding is that it even supports 18-watt fast charging allowing you to replenish in less than 2 hours so you can get back into action in no time.

Strength

  • Phenomenal Battery life
  • Somatic Mode For Wireless Control
  • Most High-end - Highest Payload Capacity
  • Bottom ARCA interface
  • Support multiple rear underslung OLED remote control handles
Weakness
  • Expensive
  • A bit heavier than FeiyuTech SCORP-C
