And no matter what tier, class, or brand camera you are dealing with, whether it’s flagship or entry-level if you simply lack the skills to provide stability, all your efforts are pretty much in vain.

Let’s take the Sony A6400 for instance, it’s a great camera with a 1″ Exmor RS CMOS sensor and outstanding output in both videography and photography, however, it lacks an in-body stabilization module.

And that is why you should most certainly invest in a tripod if you are looking to buy this camera or already own one and want to get the full potential out of it. But the good thing is, you’re in luck because I have cherry-picked the best tripods for Sony a6400 that’s worth your time.

List of 7 Best Tripods For Sony A6400

Here is the list of experts after the 1-year testing process.

Tough, Stable, and portable, the SLIK PRO 634 is no doubt one of the most resilient tripods in the list as it can easily withstand harsh environments making it quite ideal for wildlife photography.

Ultra Portable Design

The SLIK PRO 634 is a phenomenal choice for those photographers who like to travel a lot or simply perform their photoshoots outdoors with their Sony A6400.

The level of portability this tripod has is beyond impeccable and considering it is only 4.75 pounds while attaining a length of 66.7 inches, it’s simply astounding.

In other words, it’s quite a rare sight to see tripods having such lofty heights while being so lightweight that you won’t even feel them when popped into your carrying case or in your bag especially if you are on a hike.

The price tag may be a little steep on this but trust me the level of comfort and convenience you are getting due to the immense level of portability is surely well worth the money and you won’t regret it.

Flat Mode & Leg Adjustment Settings

You can also remove the center column by unscrewing it completely, allowing the tripod to become completely flat so you can also use your camera for macro photography with ease.

Another aspect I really love about this tripod is that all of its feet have twist-locking features which are not only super reliable when locking them in place but you can also change the leg by twisting them in the midst of your shoot.

No need to unmount your camera and individually set the angle and position of your tripod, the twist locking easily lets you position on uneven terrain in the blink of an eye.

Payload Specifications & Head Type

As far as the head type goes, this tripod rocks a video head with a buttery smooth unrestricted pan and tilt movement allowing you to have a sweet videography experience with no jitters in sight.

And lastly, for payload specifications, you can easily mount your Sony A6400 with a bulky lens as it can hold up to 6.6 pounds.

Testing Results

Holding this tripod in my hand felt magical due to its ultra-lightweight build and incredibly sturdy body that could easily take a beating and still maintain itself in pristine condition.

One of my favorite aspects about this tripod is its universal stud which means regardless of the head I loaded on it such as pan head, fluid head, or ball head, it could fit easily without any hiccups.

The tripod also uses typical twist locks, however, they are far from cheap and even have little protruding to provide gripping to your fingers.

In case your hand is wet or you are wearing gloves while having some outdoor activities, you will be able to unlock the tripod to its full length with ease.

To enhance its stability and bolster itself into the ground, it even has an accessory hook which is also made from solid metal.

Reason For Recommendation

If your buying power isn’t restricted by budget limitation, the SLIK Pro 634CF is by far one of the most optimal choices for your Sony A6400 as it provides top-tier stability both indoors and outdoors.

PREMIUM PICK
2. Manfrotto Befree

2. Manfrotto Befree

  • Dimensions: 4.65 x 4.65 x 16.93 inches
  • Weight: 4.19 pounds
  • Material: Aluminum
  • Max Load Capacity: 22 lbs (Safety Payload)
  • Max Height: 164cm
  • Min Height: 43cm
  • Leg Lock Type: Twist Lock
  • Number of Leg Segments: 4
  • Head Type: Ball Heads

Next in the line is the Tripod made in Italy and designed by Manfrotto, the Befree Advanced is an amazing pick for those who want premium quality performance and don’t want to break the bank.

Quick Release Plate & Head Type

At first glance, you may think this tripod is just like every other tripod that is available in the market right now.

However, the difference between them and this tripod is the fact that this tripod lives up to the promises that it has advertised for its consumers.

And it even has a nice quick-release plate designed especially for cameras like Sony a6400 which aligns perfectly with Sony cameras so it won’t wobble or shake while you perform your photoshoot.

Another factor that acts as icing on the cake is the fact that this tripod also comes with a 494 aluminum ball head which is very solid and incredibly smooth performing videography while panning feels quite satisfying as there is no stiffness, making the whole deal even better.

Payload Specifications & Lever Control

I cannot emphasize the fact of how well-made this tripod is especially when it comes to integrity and payload capacity.

In technical terms, you can virtually load up rigs that are up to 8.8 pounds, and as far as the head control lever works, you get to have not just one but three different movement adjustment knobs.

The first and the smaller one allows you to increase and decrease the stiffness of the head in panning motion.

The second one lets you control the tilting and lastly, the third one which is also located inside the tilting knob lets you adjust the friction of your head so that you can fine-tune easily.

In addition to head locking, the tripod also offers center column locking and lets you easily adjust its height which is suitable for your needs.

In the end, I believe this tripod is more than perfect for not just indoor photoshoots but also outdoor videography as it has tons of features. If you want enhanced stability you can also hook up weight onto its accessory hook and it won’t wobble around in heavy winds.

Testing Results

I really love the fact that this variant of the Manfrotto tripod has a nice little arca Swiss plate, which allows you to mount and unmount your camera on the go.

In the picture below, you can see me holding the plate and examining the beauty of its design and the brainstorming that has been invested into its quality.

The leg’s angle adjustment system has also been revamped, now you can simply push the silver lock and with a simple flick you will be able to change the feet to any desirable angle suitable for your needs.

I even tried its flat mode feature, which in my opinion is pretty cool as it provides plenty of stability and gets your camera to as low as possible, so in case you want to capture low-angle shots or simply record podcasts, this tripod would be able to do with little to no efforts at all.

Reason For Recommendation

Brings great value to the table and has a solid overall design. One of the most pivotal aspects of this tripod is its ability to fit anywhere due to its compact design.

3. SLIK Sprint Mini III

3. SLIK Sprint Mini III

  • Dimensions: 13.2 x 2.5 x 2.5 inches
  • Weight: 2.57 pounds
  • Material: Aluminum
  • Max Load Capacity: 4.4 lbs (Safety Payload)
  • Max Height: 107cm
  • Min Height: 15cm
  • Leg Lock Type: Flip Lock
  • Number of Leg Segments: 4
  • Head Type: Ball Heads

The SLIK Sprint MINI III tripod is one of the most criminally underrated picks in the market right now due to its outstanding design quality and compact form factor.

Table Top Design

It’s no doubt tiny, compact, and has a low profile form factor making it quite ideal for indoor use especially if you are a content creator or a streamer and simply want a tripod to hold your camera while you record your videos or podcasts.

When extended, it may not be as tall as the other tripods on the list as it is merely 42.4 inches, however, its strong selling point lies in its design when it is completely folded as it collapses down to a jaw-dropping size of 6 inches.

So in case you are storing it somewhere in your bag or in your cupboard after you are done using it, it can easily fit right in without hiccups.

Reversible & Detachable Center Column

The detachable and reversible feature of the center column makes this tripod stand out of the crowd because, unlike other tripod which only have column extension, the SLIK Sprint offers modularity so you can easily adjust the feet of the tripod so that it can become completely flat.

Allow your camera to be as close as possible if that’s not enough you can also invert the center column and mount your camera upside down to get the low angle view of your subject.

Ball Head Type & Payload Specifications

On the top, the SLIK Sprint comes with a w/SBH-100 Ball Head which is made from very sturdy magnesium alloy material and since it has a payload threshold of 4.4 lbs, using your Sony A6400 won’t be an issue.

Just make sure you don’t overdo the extra accessories or use a bulkier lens as you may be crossing the payload limit and that might negatively impact the ball head performance.

BEST FOR MIRRORLESS
4. Vanguard VEO 2 204AB

4. Vanguard VEO 2 204AB

  • Dimensions: 4.5 x 4.5 x 18.2 inches
  • Weight: 2.5 pounds
  • Material: Aluminum
  • Max Load Capacity: 8.8 lbs (Safety Payload)
  • Max Height: 134cm
  • Min Height: 18cm
  • Leg Lock Type: Twist Lock
  • Number of Leg Segments: 4
  • Head Type: VEO 2 BH-45 Ball Head

If you are a photographer or a videographer who often deals with bulkier lenses or simply want sufficient payload headroom, consider the Vanguard VEO 2 204AB for your nature of work.

Arca Swiss Compatibility

My favorite bit about this tripod is the fact that it boasts a QS-60S quick-release plate allowing you to mount your Sony A6400 or any other variant in a matter of seconds.

No need to screw and unscrew different plates to your camera to go handheld, as the quick-release system saves you precious time so you can get back to action in no time.

My only concern about its head is that it has a weird bubble-level location, so sometimes while experimenting with multiple lens types and accessories, you may not have a clear view of the bubble level, your equipment may be blocking it.

Payload Specifications & Overall Dimension

The Vanguard VEO 2 comes with lots of features and is no doubt incredibly lightweight for all sorts of scenarios that are performed both indoors and outdoors. However, in terms of stability and payload threshold, it’s no slouch either.

Matter of fact, you can easily load up weights up to 8.8 pounds and it won’t wobble or compromise its stability.

Because it is designed from premium-grade aluminum alloy that ensures vibrations and jitters remain at bay.

Detachable Center column

The tripod also has a low profile mode, by using the dedicated disconnect switch, you can easily unmount the center column from its post and you can use the tripod by mounting the head directly onto the legs, making it very easy to use your camera in a flat mode that is barely above the ground.

For photographers who like to get up close and personal with their subjects or simply want to perform low-angle low-exposure shots, this feature can come quite in handy.

CHEAPEST PICK
5. JOBY GorillaPod

5. JOBY GorillaPod

  • Dimensions: 3.07 x 3.07 x 14.17 inches
  • Weight: 7.4 pounds
  • Material: ABS Plastic, Aluminum, Rubber
  • Max Load Capacity: 6.6 lbs (Safety Payload)
  • Max Height: 30cm
  • Min Height: 15cm
  • Leg Lock Type: N/A
  • Number of Leg Segments: N/A
  • Head Type: Ball Head

If you want something flexible and easy to use but don’t want to spend too much, the Joby GorrillaPOD would be an ideal choice for you. Here is why.

Top tier Versatility

The strongest and the most crucial selling point about this tripod is that it has flexible feet that are made from top-of-the-line medical-grade ABS plastic with a combination of stainless steel and German TPE which allows it to cling to bars or any other surfaces quite easily.

Since you would be bending the legs on a routine basis of this tripod, the ABS plastic provides integrity and reinforcement so that there is no cracking or any other form of wear or tear effect on the legs.

While some may claim this feature is quite gimmicky, I believe it’s very useful for scenarios where you want to use your camera for vlogging purposes or simply want to place it on a table while recording podcasts.

Payload Specifications

It’s definitely not a powerhouse when it comes to payload capacity, but it can get the job done with vanilla rigs like using prime lenses or kit lenses with your Sony A6400 since its payload threshold allows weight up to 6.6 lbs.

However, if you are looking to pair up telephoto lenses, then you might need to opt out for more heavy-duty variants of the Joby Gorillapod.

But I believe that’s not a deal breaker for those photographers who like to use moderately bulky lenses like 85mm for a product or candid photography.

Quick Release plate & Bubble Level

Furthermore, the tripod also provides a fresh breath of air with its conveniently placed bubble level so you can easily take a peek at it and check whether or not your camera is balanced in the right position.

Besides the bubble level, the tripod has a lovely quick-release plate so mounting your camera while you’re traveling in split seconds won’t be an issue.

Lastly, I admire the fact that this tripod also comes with a decent ball head with 360 unrestricted motion, making videography incredibly easier.

MOST RATED
6. GEEKOTO Video Tripod

6. GEEKOTO Video Tripod

  • Dimensions: 24.7 x 5.7 x 5.7 inches
  • Weight: 3.1 pounds
  • Material: Aluminium
  • Max Load Capacity: 20 lbs (Safety Payload)
  • Max Height: 195cm
  • Min Height: 61cm
  • Leg Lock Type: Flip Lock
  • Number of Leg Segments: 3
  • Head Type: Pan Heads, Fluid Heads

Now, we have the Geekoto Tripod which surprisingly surpassed my expectations through its spectacular stability and budget-friendly price tag. Here is my review of it.

Head Type

Let’s start the review with its head type, the Geekotot Video tripod offers a fluid ball head that has dual knobs, each assigned for panning and tilting independently. It also has a larger cradle to hold up larger camera rigs.

However, my only concern about this 360 ball head is that it’s pretty much made from plastic and that may sound quite frowned upon by some tripod enthusiasts in the community.

Nonetheless, I believe for casual photographers or users who are on a tight budget, this may not be a deal breaker as long as they gently handle this tripod but for professional videographers who want a solid stabilization solution made from metal alloys, you might want to skip this one.

Payload Specifications & Overall Height

If you don’t mind the plastic build of the head, the silver lining here in the Geekoto tripod is that it boasts a massive payload threshold of up to 20 lbs, and as far as the height is concerned, you can easily extend its legs as well as the center column and gain up to 77 inches of height, which I believe is quite taller than most tripods I have reviewed in the past at such price point.

7. Kiorafoto Tripod

  • Dimensions: 24 x 4.5 x 4.5 inches
  • Weight: 4.59 pounds
  • Material: Aluminum, (ABS)
  • Max Load Capacity: 11 lbs (Safety Payload)
  • Max Height: 152cm
  • Min Height: 50cm
  • Leg Lock Type: Flip Lock
  • Number of Leg Segments: 4
  • Head Type: Pan Heads

Lastly, we have the most sought-after brand for the Sony A6400 camera, the VCT-VPR1 which has mind-blowing stability and impeccable build quality.

Weight & Length Dimensions

The reason why I speak so highly of this tripod is the fact that it is very portable and can fit in almost any place because when folded, it’s just 56mm.

But since it has 3 segmented legs, you can easily attain lengths up to 56 cm which is mind-blowing, and even if you are a taller individual, you can easily work with your camera without bending too much.

That’s not it yet, when it comes to weight dimensions, the tripod is barely 1.4 kilograms, so if you’re looking for portability in this tripod be assured you will find it in abundance here.

Stability Powerhouse

There is no doubt that this tripod has got quite an expensive price tag and is nowhere near budget-friendly, but this attribute might be due to the fact that the manufacturer ensured the quality and stability aspect of this tripod remains in top tier state to meet the ever-growing standards of the industry and its consumer.

In other words, if you often find yourself traveling a lot with your Sony A6400, especially in a harsh uncontrolled environment where gusts of wind are common, you would absolutely love this tripod.

In order to compensate for movement and vibrations that may compromise the stability of your camera, each of its legs is made from 10 layers of premium carbon fiber material to ensure it can hold up its integrity even after years of use while working in harsh and rough environments.

As for its payload specifications, the Leofoto LS-284 is an exceptional choice for heavier and bulkier rigs because for holding weights up to 12 pounds, this bad boy doesn’t break a sweat.

If you can afford the price tag on this stabilization beast, then I think there is no better choice for your Sony A6400, especially if you work outdoors.

Bottom Line

Not all the glitters are gold and the reason why I say this is because the market is saturated with so many tripods and stabilization accessories that either are way too expensive to provide the best bang for your buck or simply don’t live up to the promises they claim.

Keeping that in mind, I spent lots of time researching the best tripods for Sony a6400, so you don’t have to go through the hassle. So go ahead and pick any tripod from the list for your Sony A6400, you won’t be disappointed, I assure you that.

That being said, thank you for stopping by, stay tuned for more articles like these.
